GPI’s new social enterprise began in Southport, Indiana as Peaceful Grounds Café and Farm Market: A Center for Agriculture and Sustainable Living.
We believe that Peaceful Grounds and the Peaceful Grounds Farm Market will become a hub for local growers and food buyers from throughout Central Indiana. What we intend is a central market for exchange from farmers to restaurants and individuals. We know this initiative will create a year round destination point for all local food fans. When we are able to open the restaurant, Peaceful Grounds Café will serve up healthy local foods and operate a commercial kitchen. As one of the more important aspects of the initiative, Peaceful Grounds Center for Agriculture and Sustainable Living will offer diverse educational opportunities, but initially focus on gardening, food preservation and some of the craft arts that help make life more sustainable. The on-site farm will show case year round food growth in highly fertile soil created through intensive vermiculture production (worm farming).
We know that local food is fresher, healthier and as an industry can be used to help build our economy. Home-based gardens are a way that people can grow their own food and increase the level of food security for their families. Peaceful Grounds will serve as an educational and demonstration site for urban gardening and provide training and support to people who want to create sustainable food systems for food production and preservation.
